Captiva is a census -designated place (CDP ) in Lee County in the U.S. state of Florida with 583 inhabitants (as of 2010).

Geography

Captiva is located on the island of Captiva Iceland on the Gulf of Mexico. The island is connected by a bridge to Sanibel Iceland, which in turn is connected by bridge to the mainland at Cape Coral. Captiva is located approximately 40 km west of Fort Myers. Tampa is located about 260 miles and Miami 270 km away.

Demographics

According to the 2010 census, the then 583 inhabitants distributed to 1,446 households. The population density was 182.2 inh. / Km ². 78.0 % of the population were white, 20.1% African American and 1.0 % Asian Americans. 0.9% were members of different ethnic groups. 3.6% of the population were Hispanic or Latino.

In 2010, children under the age of 18 and 45.1 % of all households lived in 4.4% of all households with persons at least 65 years. 46.8 % of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring ). The average size of a household was 1.63 persons and the average family size is 2.21 people.

4.1% of the population were younger than 20 years, 27.7 % were 20-39 years old, 22.7 % were 40-59 years old and 45.3 % were at least 60 years old. The median age was 58 years. 48.0 % of the population were male and 52.0 % female.

The average annual income was $ 79,219, while 6.7% of the population lived below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 100 % of the population.
