Grabau

Grabau is a municipality in the district of Stormarn in Schleswig-Holstein.

History

Grabau was first mentioned in documents in 1433. Mesolithic finds indicate the first settlement of the area. The grave Auer burial indicates a settlement in the Bronze Age. Over time it has been to the Grange of good Borstel. After the Borsteler estate was sold in 1804, Grabau was separated and even Good raised to the nobility. 1863 was the place his first school. In 1907, Grabau by Elmshorn - Barmstedt - Oldesloer railway a rail connection, which was shut down again in 1973. After dissolution of the estate districts Grabau was merged with Neritz to a rural community. 1942, the Association of Grabau and Neritz was reversed and both villages were independent communities.

Since 1948 Grabau belongs to the Official Bad Oldesloe country. By Aufsiedlung of lands of the estate, the population has since increased steadily.

1905 bought by the businessman Gustav from Bremen Lahusen the estate and built the grave Auer mansion, which is a protected monument today. Lahusen sold the estate in 1931 to the margarine manufacturer Friedrich Bölck, but quickly had to give it to the state. During World War II Grabau became the Army stud farm. From 1951 to 1966, the estate hosted a country youth center, until 1967 Dobimar of Kameke bought the manor.

Districts

High Dam

In today's district of High Dam, which is located approximately 1.5 km from the farm by the grave Auer lake, since the 15th century there was a mill operation. To 1486, a grain mill was built, which was converted with coin production since about 1593, a copper and brass work. Since the 16th century, a small settlement formed around the mill, which forms the core of today's hamlet.

Only privately operated, was used in the brass and copper processing from 1795 to 1832 on behalf of the Danish Ministry of Finance. 1832 the mill was in the possession of the goods Grabau, whose owner had installed an additional milling operation, so that the mill could be used as a corn mill again. The metal processing was set in the 1850s, the grain mill operated until 1906. The existing mill building today was built in 1876 and rebuilt on the setting of the mill operation to a multi-family house.

Natural Monuments

The grave Auer burial ground, are obtained from the four grave mounds from the Neolithic period ( five more have been plowed over in the last few centuries ) is a historical monument since 1968 and is the oldest evidence of human settlement in the region.
