ISO 3166-2:RU

The list of ISO -3166 -2 codes for Russia contains the codes for the 83 federal subjects.

The codes are composed of two parts which are separated by a hyphen. The first part is the country code according to ISO 3166-1 ( for Russia RU ), the second the code for the federal subject again. The current country code is in the Newsletter II-2 dated 30 June 2010 (PDF) last updated.

Among the subjects of the federation include:

  • 21 republics. These have their own constitution and legislation. Republics have been built into the main settlement areas of the larger non-Russian ethnic groups and mostly from Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republics ( ASSR ) of the Soviet Union emerged. Except Tatarstan and Chechnya all republics have signed the Federation Treaty of 31 March 1992 with Russia.

  • 46 regions ( oblast)
  • 2 federal cities rank
  • 1 Autonomous Region ( Oblast Awtonomnaja )
  • 4 autonomous counties ( Awtonomny Okrug )
