Izumi Province

Izumi (Japanese和 泉 国, Izumi no kuni ) or Senshu (泉州) was an old province of Japan and after the Gokishichidō classification one of the interior provinces ( Kinai ). It forms the current south-western part of Osaka Prefecture (outside the city of Osaka itself).

The capital ( Kokufu ) was probably in present-day district Fuchū -chō ( Fuchū is an alternative term for a provincial capital ) by Izumi. Izumi had the major seaport of Sakai and was dominated usually by the rulers in the Osaka Castle and the province Settsu.

History

Izumi had a special status because it was classified as the province Yoshino rather than conditions, as usual, kuni, which is probably due to the fact that were in both imperial palaces second. In Izumi was the Chinu Palace.

On September 15, 740 ( Tempyo 08.12.20 ) she was reintegrated by Kawachi, but set ( 1/5/8 Tempyo Hoji ) again on 30 May 757, this time as a regular province ( kuni ).
