Kaltern an der Weinstraße

Kaltern on the Wine Route (Italian Caldaro sulla Strada del Vino ) is a municipality in South Tyrol (Italy ) with 7735 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012). Kaltern located in Oltradige on the South Tyrolean Wine Road.

Geography

The municipality is located in the south of South Tyrol Kaltern few kilometers southwest of the city of Bolzano. The 47.96 km ² total area comprises the southern half of Überetsch - increased above the valley of the Adige hills, in which the population centers of the community are - as well as a section of the west ridge towering Mendel and small parts of the lower mainland.

The community center Kaltern spreads at the foot of the slope Überetscher Mendel comb. The once separate the old town centers of Kaltern (village), Mitter village and a slightly higher altitude St. Anton / Pfuss and St. Nicholas are almost grown during the 20th century (from about 400 to 600 m slm ). Surmounted the west, the settlement areas by the trending from north to south Mendelkamm carrying the border with Trentino. In the north pushes Kaltern - beyond the two factions Oberplanitzing (500 m) and Unterplanitzing (430 m) - the Überetscher neighboring community Appiano. South of the main town, the terrain drops gently to Caldaro (215 m) with the fraction St. Josef am See from back. Further south stands the municipality into a piece in the flat valley floor of the lower mainland, where Caldaro Tramin and Neumarkt borders. In the southwest of the township - on a high plateau above Lake Caldaro - after all is still Altenburg ( 610 m).

Trails

Appiano and its surrounding area has many well-marked walking routes:

  • Trail around the lake Caldaro: easy access panoramic, runs through the largest preserved wetland area between Po and the Alps
  • Rise to Altenburg: (615 m asl ), St. Joseph ( 228 m asl ), two paths to choose from: 14 on St. Peter or No.1 by Rastenbachklamm, way back over the " peace path "
  • Great and Little Lake Montiggl: from the northern shore of Lake Kalterer or Caldaro, paths Nos. 19 and 20
  • Kalterer Trail: from Altenburg to Goeller meadow (1510 m), from there you can either descend to Söll at Tramin and the path around the lake or to the Roen ( 2116 m) and Überetscher hut
  • Steeper walks on the Mendel ( Roen 2116 m, 1740 m Penegal )
  • Route of the former railway Überetscher ( hiking and biking trail to Bolzano )

The water temperature of Lake Kalterer in summer reaches up to 28 degrees ( considered to be the warmest lake in the Alps ), so that the bathing season already usually begins mid-May. The lake is further to travel with rowing and pedal boats, sailing, windsurfing, ice skating in winter. In addition to the in 2006 newly built outdoor swimming pool is also a beach volleyball court.
