Kurtatsch an der Weinstraße

Kurtatsch on the Wine Route (Italian: Cortaccia sulla strada del vino ) is a municipality with 2209 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in South Tyrol (Italy). Kurtatsch is one of the countries along the South Tyrolean Wine Road villages in the lowlands.

Geography

The municipality is located in the country Kurtatsch, a section of the Adige Valley in South Tyrol, on the orographic right (west ) side of the valley. The main town, Kurtatsch ( 260-410 m asl ) is slightly increased at the foot of the slope of the Mendel comb. The underlying and to the municipality associated section of the valley floor, which is bordered to the north by Tramin, to the east by Neumarkt and on the south by Magrè extends to the river Adige. Just south of the main town is also only slightly above the valley floor, the fraction Entiklar ( 210-240 m).

Higher up and scattered over the hillside strips of Mendel ridge extending several farmsteads, hamlets and village settlements, which are expected to further four fractions. On a high plateau in the north of the total 30.19 km ² municipal area is Graun ( 790-840 m); west behind the town and Entiklars are Hoftstatt, a scattered settlement without real village center, and the Distributed on terraced slopes Penon ( 580-620 m); in the south of the municipality finally rises the Fennberg, on the northern plateau half the fraction Oberfennberg (1160-1170 m ) can be stored. The west over the Kurtatsch settlements uplifting heights of the calculated to Nonsberggruppe Mendel comb carry the border with Trentino. Among the few prominent peaks where the Tresner horn forms (1811 m) the highest point of the municipality.

History

Kurtatsch is first mentioned in documents in 1191 in the so-called Vigilius letter. The origin of the name Kurtatsch ( cf. Latin cors / cortis: the court / the court ) is considered by experts as a collection of farmhouses.

Archaeological evidence on site testify that the area was already inhabited in Mesolithic.

After the period of occupation by the Romans the area, according to a tradition of St. Vigilius ( 340-400 ) was converted to the Christian faith.

The bell tower of Romanesque pilgrimage church of St. Vigilius was built in 1300.

Kurtatsch belonged to the end of the First World War for the judicial district of Neumarkt in Tyrol and was part of the district of Bolzano.

1913, the community lost the fraction of Söll Tramin, 1978, the Group Rungg.

Economy

The main source of income of the people of Kurtatsch are vineyards and orchards. While extensive in the valley orchards are cultivated (about 600 ha), grows on the slopes around and above Kurtatsch international quality wine (about 330 ha). Almost half of the population is active in over 300 companies in agriculture.

Coat of arms

In blue a golden post horn with just such tassels, accompanied by two golden six -pointed stars above and below. The original coat of arms may have composed from the family crest of the wealthy family " on the boards" (hunting horn) and the Masseregn family ( four stars). This led later by the richer development of the originally simple hunting horn, as it is still preserved on a stoup of Kirchenumfriedungsmauer from the 16th century, today's post horn.
