Manlius Valerius Thomson

Manlius Valerius Thomson ( born August 13, 1802 Scott County, Kentucky; † July 22, 1850 in Georgetown, Kentucky ) was an American politician. Between 1840 and 1844 he was Deputy Governor of the State of Kentucky.

Career

Manlius Thomson attended the common schools and then studied until 1822 at the Transylvania University in Lexington. After studying law and qualifying as a lawyer, he began to work in Georgetown in this profession. Later he hit as a member of the Whig Party launched a political career. In 1840 he was elected to the Senate from Kentucky, whose acting Chairman ( Speaker) he was.

Thomson was elected to the side of Robert Letcher for Lieutenant Governor of Kentucky also in 1840. This post he held 1840-1844. Yet he was Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Senate official. After the end of his time as Lieutenant Governor, he moved again a member in this chamber of parliament. In 1847 he was appointed colonel of an infantry regiment of Kentucky during the Mexican-American War. In this capacity he participated in the war. In the presidential election of 1848 he was one of the electors of his party. Manlius Thomson died on 22 July 1850 in Georgetown from cholera.
