Scott County (Kentucky)

Scott County is a county located in the state of Kentucky in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Georgetown, named after President George Washington.

Geography

The County is located in north-central Kentucky and has an area of 739 square kilometers, of which one square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Grant County, Harrison County, Bourbon County, Fayette County, Woodford County, Franklin County and Owen County.

History

Scott County has been explored before in 1774 and formed on June 22, 1792 from parts of Woodford County.

One of the first settlers was John McClelland of Pennsylvania. 1783 Robert Johnson founded the first permanent settlement at Johnson 's Station.

The County was named after Charles Scott, a general, hero of the American Revolutionary War and later governor. Scott led the 1791 Kentucky militia in the Battle of Wabash and 1794, he led them in the Battle of Fallen Timbers to victory. He was regarded as a man with firm principles. Part of it was also described as eccentric and rude. Scott had seven children. He died in October 1813.
