Boyd County (Kentucky)

Boyd County is a county located in the state of Kentucky in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Catlettsburg, which was named after one of the first settlers here, Alexander Catlett and his son Horatio Catlett.

Geography

The County is located in northeastern Kentucky, is bordered to the northeast Ohio, separated by the Ohio River, on the east by Virginia and has an area of 419 square kilometers, of which four square kilometers of water surface. It borders in Kentucky clockwise to the following counties: Greenup County, Lawrence County and Carter County.

History

Boyd County was formed on February 16, 1860 from parts of Carter County, Greenup County and Lawrence County. It was named a member of the U.S. Congress by Linn Boyd.
