Livingston County (Kentucky)

The Livingston County is a county located in the U.S. state of Kentucky. In 2010, the County had 9519 inhabitants and a population density of 11.6 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Smithland, which was named after James Smith, an explorer of this region. The county is one of the Dry counties, which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

Geography

The County is located in western Kentucky at the mouths of the Tennessee River and the Cumberland River in Ohio, which also marks the northern border with Illinois. It has an area of 886 square kilometers, of which 68 square kilometers are water surface. At the Livingston County borders the following counties:

History

The Livingston County was formed on December 13, 1798 from parts of the former Christian County. It was named after Robert Livingston (1746-1813), one of the founding fathers of the United States.
