McLean County (Kentucky)

McLean County is a county located in the U.S. state of Kentucky. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Calhoun, which was named after John Calhoon, a member of the U.S. Congress. The county is one of the Dry counties, which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

Geography

The County is located in western Kentucky, is located in the north about 35 km from the state of Illinois and has an area of ​​663 square kilometers, of which five square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Henderson County, Daviess County, Ohio County, Muhlenberg County, Hopkins County and Webster County.

History

McLean County was formed on February 6, 1854 from parts of Daviess County, Muhlenberg County and Ohio County. It was named after Alney McLean, a judge and member of the U.S. Congress.
