McLean County (Kentucky)
McLean County is a county located in the U.S. state of Kentucky. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Calhoun, which was named after John Calhoon, a member of the U.S. Congress. The county is one of the Dry counties, which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.
Geography
The County is located in western Kentucky, is located in the north about 35 km from the state of Illinois and has an area of 663 square kilometers, of which five square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Henderson County, Daviess County, Ohio County, Muhlenberg County, Hopkins County and Webster County.
History
McLean County was formed on February 6, 1854 from parts of Daviess County, Muhlenberg County and Ohio County. It was named after Alney McLean, a judge and member of the U.S. Congress.

According to the census in 2000 lived in McLean County 9,938 people in 3,984 households and 2,880 families. The population density was 15 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 98.58 percent White, 0.36 percent African American, 0.16 percent Native American, 0.04 percent Asian, 0.01 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 0.31 percent from other races groups; 0.53 percent were descended from two or more races. 0.84 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 3,984 households out of which 32.3 percent have children under the age of 18 living with them. 60.0 percent were married couples living together, 8.7 percent were single mothers, 27.7 percent were non-families, 24.7 percent of all households and 11.4 percent lived in people aged 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.47 and the average family size was 2.93.
Based on the county the population was spread from 24.2 percent population under 18 years, 8.3 percent between 18 and 24 years, 27.7 percent between 25 and 44 years, 25.4 percent between 45 and 64 years and 14.5 percent were 65 years old or older. The average age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 96.4 males. For every 100 females aged 18 years old or over, there were 93.2 men statistically.
The median income for a household was $ 29,675, and the median income for a family was $ 35,322. Males had a median income of $ 28,446, women $ 19,432. The per capita income was $ 16,046. 13.7 percent of families and 16.0 percent of the population lived below the poverty line. Of these, 21.1 percent were children or adolescents under age 18 and 18.5 percent of those 65 years.
