Hopkins County (Kentucky)

Hopkins County is a county located in the state of Kentucky in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Madisonville, which was named after President James Madison.

Geography

The County is located in western Kentucky, is in the south about 70 miles from Tennessee, located in the north about 50 miles from Indianapolis and has an area of 1435 square kilometers, of which ten square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Webster County, McLean County, Muhlenberg County, Christian County and Caldwell County.

History

Hopkins County was formed on December 9, 1806 from parts of Henderson County. It was named for Samuel Hopkins, a general and a member of Congress.
