Shelby County (Kentucky)

Shelby County is a county located in the state of Kentucky in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Shelbyville. The county is one of the Dry counties, which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

Geography

The County is located in north-central Kentucky, is located in the northwest about 30 km from Indiana and has an area of 999 square kilometers, of which four square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Henry County, Franklin County, Anderson County, Spencer County, Jefferson County and Oldham County.

History

Shelby County was formed on June 23, 1792 from parts of Jefferson County. It was named for Isaac Shelby, a governor and general.
