James Breathitt, Jr.

James Breathitt, Jr. ( born December 14, 1890 in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, † October 29, 1934 ) was an American politician. Between 1927 and 1931 he was Deputy Governor of the State of Kentucky.

Career

James Breathitt attended the public schools of his home and then the Centre College in Danville. After a subsequent study of law and qualifying as a lawyer, he began to work in this profession. During the First World War he was in a training camp of the squadron of the U.S. Navy in Boston. Politically, he joined the Democratic Party. On a state level, he came within this party great influence. He belonged in the meantime to the Senate of Kentucky and took 1928 as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in Houston in part.

1927 Breathitt was elected Lieutenant Governor of Kentucky. This post he held 1927-1931. Yet he was Deputy Republican Governor Flem D. Sampson and Chairman of the State Senate. He died on 29 October 1934 in his hometown of Hopkinsville from pneumonia, which he had contracted at the funeral of former Governor JCW Beckham.

James Breathitt was the uncle of the later Governor Edward T. Breathitt ( 1924-2003 ). He was also a great-grandnephew of John Breathitt (1786-1834), who was among other things, the governor and lieutenant governor of Kentucky.
