Mazda Furai

The Mazda Furai (Japanese:风 籁, Furai "Sound of the Wind" ) is a concept car of the Japanese car manufacturer Mazda, which was introduced at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit in January 2008.

The Furai is the fifth model from the Nagare concept car line, which is manufactured by Mazda since 2006. The chassis is based on the Le Mans prototype C65 of Courage Compétition, had the Mazda last used two years earlier in the American Le Mans Series and with a new 3-disc rotary engine (450 bhp, 331 kW) for use is equipped of bioethanol. The Wankel engine and the trochoidal muffler was developed by Racing Beat, a tuner for rotary engines based on the 20B. The engine is not a completely new development.

The car carries the number 55 of his predecessor 787B, who won the 1991 24 - hour race at Le Mans. Unlike many other concept cars of the Furai is fully functional and has been tested on various race tracks, such as Laguna Seca and Buttonwillow.

On 19 August 2008 the Furai prototype was completely destroyed by a fire during a test, the tester of the car show " Top Gear".
