Moos in Passeier

Moss in pass eggs (Italian Moso in Passiria) is the geographically largest municipality in eggs pass in South Tyrol (Italy). It belongs to the district Burggrafenamt and has 2148 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012). Located north of Merano in the middle of the Texel Group Nature Park, the community borders Austria.

Geography

Of the three communities in pass eggs moss is the only one in Hinterpasseier, which - in contrast to the forward pass eggs south of St. Leonhard - has alpine character and a harsh climate. The Valley of the Passer narrows between steep wooded hillsides; Moss is the main town in the valley at about 1000 m altitude, the other groups on terraces or hills surrounded by mountain pastures above the foaming torrent.

Moss

Moss has dedicated a late-Gothic parish church ( 1402/ 03), Assumption, with 52 m high tower. The interior is in Baroque style, including paintings of Passeirer school of painting, an art school of the 18th and 19th century from St. Martin.

A popular hiking destination is the Stieber waterfall; on the western edge of the falls Pfelderer Bach in two cascades of only 19 m and 18 m in the register. The canyon walls with different rock formations, whirl pools downstream and holes are made of dark paragneisses.

Above the waterfall - near the road to Plattsburgh - there was a beginning of the 20th century medically used sulfur source ( dried ) for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases and rheumatism. The physician Dr. Mathias Felderer had here a bathhouse for sitz baths, full baths and drinking cures established ( "Bad Sand" ). The dilapidated fountain and a table which explains the relics of this health resort, where there is only Holiday apartments and a cafe today.

Below the road to the Timmelsjoch ( access from the center ) is open in 2009 Bunker " Mooseum ", which belongs to MuseumPasseier.

Area Plan

Flat

Platt ( it. Plata ) is located in 1140 m height on a terrace south east of the main town. 15 so-called " potholes " - are actually meant potholes - can be reached on marked hiking trails from here. The largest is eight feet deep.

Stulles

Stulles (it. Stulles ) is 1350 meters high across from Platt north of registration on a terrace on the slope of Jaufenkamms. In contrast to this platform from the south terrace gets plenty of sun and is therefore at a popular summer hiking resort. Stulles is the starting point for hikes to Eggergrubalm and plateau in the ascent of the Hochwart ( 2608 m) and the High Cross peak ( 2743 m).

From this terrace overthrow the Stuller waterfalls cascade into two 342 m deep into the Passeiertal.

Rabenstein

Rabenstein (it. Corvara ) is 1419 meters high on a small hill overlooking the Passer and is agrarian.

On the meadow plateau south of the village there was once a lake. It was created in 1401 by a landslide that formed a dam which had dammed the water of the Passer. This dam broke a total of eight times, most recently in 1774 final. Because of the destruction that brought the dam bursts each with itself, the lake was called Kummersee. Today there is a marked hiking trail around its former shore.

One particular - can only be reached by a two-hour parade - attraction is the " Adventure Mine " snow mountain in the Vorhöhen the Stubai Alps on 2355 m height. It was the highest mine in Europe. From the Middle Ages to 1967, here silver, lead and zinc were mined. In 1995 it was restored and since then wear plates, meals and accommodation are offered.

Ulfas

Ulfas is above and Platt is a hamlet. In Ulfas the courts Kratzegg, Bastl, Veitner, Micheler, Poell, Pichler and Hofer and the church of St. Korbinian Freising located ( built in 1903; small altar with statue of the saint and the Korbinian bears as its attribute ). When Kratzegghof ( trail parking lot for the way to Ulfaser Alm ) is still a working mill. Located just west of Ulfas is Magdfeld, which already belongs to Riffiano.

The lying at 1600 m Ulfaser Alm (30 minutes walk) is open in summer. One Waal is derived (1862-1865 created) from the flowing past here Saldernbach, soaking the animals. The above Ulfas running through the forest Matatzer Waal accompanied one of the last of its kind in the Passeiertal that have water. He ends after about 3.5 km at a log cabin where the Waalwärter also operates a guest inn in summer.

Hütt

Hütt (it. La Capanna ) is between Platt and Area Plan and is also a hamlet. In Hütt are the courtyards Joseler, Jenner and more small farms. The church of the Holy Hütt is. Dedicated to Josef.

Pill

Pill (it. Bovile ) lies above the road that leads from moss to Plattsburgh. In Pill are the courtyards Goster, Pamer, Brugger, ponds and about 20 more yards and a normal house. Since Pill is a hamlet and no church has the Piller need to go to church to Moos. From Pill comes the former mayor of Moss, Joseph Ennemoser.

Economy and infrastructure

Except on the Passeiertal (SS 44) moss (up to SS 44) can also be reached by the Austrian Oetztal over the Timmelsjoch. The Timmelsjochstrasse Built in 1967, however, is only passable in summer.

In the moss Pfelderer valley from Passeiertal branches off to the southwest.

Tourism in the sparsely populated and large rural Hinterpasseier is muted compared to the forward pass eggs yet. Small hotels and family pensions which are geared primarily to hikers, predominate. The winter season is a regular at Area Plan a matter where a ski area exists.
