Renfrewshire

Renfrewshire (Gaelic Siorrachd Rinn Friu ) is one of 32 Council Areas in Scotland. It is bordered by North Ayrshire, East Renfrewshire, Glasgow, Inverclyde and West Dunbartonshire.

The existing 1975-1996 District Renfrew was a little larger than the present county Renfrewshire, and included additional cities Barrhead, Neilston and Uplawmoor which now belong to East Renfrewshire.

The traditional county Renfrewshire was much larger and included areas that are today in Inverclyde and East Renfrewshire. During the 1920s some of the villages were incorporated in the traditional Renfrewshire Glasgow. Renfrewshire in the traditional boundaries is still one of the Lieutenancy Areas of Scotland.
