Rob Simmons

Robert Ruhl " Rob" Simmons ( born February 11, 1943 in New York City ) is an American politician. Between 2001 and 2007 he represented the second electoral district of the state of Connecticut in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Rob Simmons visited to 1965 Haverford College in Haverford (Pennsylvania). Between 1965 and 1968 he was a soldier of the U.S. Army, the Reserve after he belonged until 2000. During his active time as a soldier, he was also used in Vietnam. At the end of his time as a reserve officer in the intelligence service, he had brought it to the Colonel. Between 1969 and 1979, Simmons worked in international missions for the CIA. In 1979, he studied at Harvard University public administration.

Politically, Simmons joined the Republican Party. From 1979 to 1981 he was an employee of U.S. Senator John Chafee of Rhode Iceland. From 1981 to 1985 he was on the staff of the Intelligence Committee of the Congress. After that, he was from 1990 to 2000 deputy in the House of Representatives from Connecticut.

In 2000, Simmons was in the second district of Connecticut in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC selected. There he stepped on 3 January 2001 to succeed the Democrats Sam Gejdenson, whom he had beaten in the election. After two elections Simmons could pass in Congress until January 3, 2007, three legislative periods. There he was a member of the Armed Services Committee and the Homeland Security Committee. In the 2006 elections, he was defeated by Democrat Joe Courtney.

In February 2007, Simmons was appointed the first Business Advocate in the State of Connecticut. This office was then newly created with the aim to promote and advance the economy specifically. 15 March 2009 Rob Simmons announced his candidacy for the 2010 elections to the U.S. Senate. When trying to succeed Chris Dodd, he lay in the polls first long forward, but ultimately lost in the Republican primary against Linda McMahon.
