Saint-Angel, Corrèze

Saint-Angel is a commune with 665 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Corrèze, in the Limousin region. The inhabitants are called Saint- Angélois (it).

Geography

The municipality is located in the Massif Central on the Plateau de Millevaches and thus also in the Regional Natural Park Millevaches en Limousin.

Tulle, prefecture of the department is located, about 55 kilometers south-west, Égletons about 20 kilometers southwest and Ussel around nine kilometers to the northeast.

Neighboring municipalities of Saint-Angel Alleyrat are in the north, Chaveroche in the northeast, Ussel and Mestes in the east, in the southeast Valiergues, Palisse in the west and south Combressol Meymac in the West.

Traffic

The village is located about three kilometers southwest of the junction 23 of the A89 autoroute.

History

The village got its name from a monastery founded in the 8th century there, which was dedicated to the Archangel Michael. The area was occupied during the Hundred Years War of England. The end of the occupation was marked by the burning of the monastery in 1375.

In 1793, merged the communes of Saint - Fréjoux -le- Mineur and Saint-Angel.
