Sarracín

Sarracín is a municipality ( municipio ) with 263 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013) in the province of Burgos in the northern Spanish Autonomous Region of Castile -Leon.

Location

Sarracín is the through which the Río Ausin Castilian plateau ( meseta ) at a height of about 870 meters above sea level. inst and is almost eleven kilometer ( route ) to the south of the city of Burgos. Located also on the Rio Ausín neighboring towns Villariezo and Arcos de la Llana are just six or ten miles to the west.

Demographics

In the second half of the 19th and in the first half of the 20th century, the population fluctuated constantly between about 200 and 350 inhabitants. After the mechanization of agriculture led to an exodus of a large part of the population in the cities. The proximity to Burgos and the relatively low land prices have led to the turn of the millennium to a rebound in the population.

Economy

The region is significantly influenced by agriculture for centuries. Tourism plays little role.

History

A family by the name Sarracino is first mentioned in a document from the year 963. The name was transferred to a small monastery and a place of the same name in the Middle Ages. Even a castle ( castillo ) appears to have existed. In the 15th and 16th centuries was about a kilometer southeast of the Palacio de Saldañuela.

Attractions

  • The Palacio de Saldañuela goes back to a late medieval castle, stopped by the only nor the main tower ( torre de homenaje ). The initiative to build the actual palace with its harmoniously designed south gallery of Doña Isabel de Osorio dates (1522-1589), a long -time lover of Philip II, with the monarch allegedly had two children. The completed 1562 building with its beautiful courtyard was acquired in the 20th century by the Caja Burgos and served as a picture gallery and guest house; it has been rebuilt in 2010 at a hotel.
  • The parish church was originally a nave building with a wide -bearing, defensive acting facade. The interior was redesigned late 20th century completely.
  • The Hermit Church ( Ermita del Cristo de los Buenos Temporal ), one -nave building with a bell gable ( espadaña ) seems to belong to the same time as the Palacio de Saldañuela. The corners of the pediment decorated with small obelisks and balls that are vaguely reminiscent of the approximately simultaneous construction of the Escorial.
  • The Torre de los Salamanca is the only remnant of an old Medieval castle mittal or a fortified manor. He is also known under the name palomar ( " dovecote ").
