St. Pankraz

San Pancrazio (Italian San Pancrazio ) is a municipality with 1567 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in South Tyrol (Italy). It is located in Val d'Ultimo to 736 m altitude and is the first town in the valley.

Geography

St. Pancras is located about 11 km southwest of Merano in Val d'Ultimo. This runs from Lana in a southwesterly direction and is traversed by the Falschauer. The coming of the West Kirchbach empties into San Pancrazio in the Falschauer.

In the northwest of San Pancrazio, ranging from the 2608 m high Wart and the 2474 m high Hochjoch the northeastern striking elevations of the Ortler Alps, south of the 2434 m high alkalis, and in the southwest of Small ( 2311 m) and the Great Kornigl ( 2418 m).

  • Ruins of castle Eschenlohe mentioned since the 12th century as " Castle Ultimo "
  • Parish church with 56 m high steeple
  • Sebastian chapel next to the parish church
  • Chapel of St. Helena The 1338 first mentioned chapel is visible from afar on a 1550 m high forest hills.
  • Häusl on stone The house has the flood of Falschauer of 1882 survived because it was built on a stone block.

Economy

In addition to tourism and mountain agriculture, in St. Pancras some craft shops. The place has its own heating plant to supply heat.

Traffic

From St. Pancras can be reached via the main road SP9 Lana in the northeast to 11 km and the junction Merano South of Highway 38 ( Meran -Bozen ) is 13 km. From the south you can reach the Val d'Ultimo on the provincial road SP86.
