Staffordshire

Staffordshire [ stæfədʃɪə ] is a county ( County) set in the Midlands of England. The seat of the county is Stafford. Part of the National Forest are within the limits of the county. It is surrounded by the counties of Cheshire, Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Warwickshire, West Midlands, Worcestershire, and Shropshire.

Major cities in the county of Staffordshire are Stoke-on -Trent, Burton -upon -Trent, Newcastle -under- Lyme, Tamworth and Stafford itself

Staffordshire is further divided into districts. These are Cannock Chase, East Staffordshire, Lichfield, Newcastle -under- Lyme, South Staffordshire, Stafford, Staffordshire Moorlands, and Tamworth. Stoke -on-Trent is a city district ( Unitary Authority) managed autonomously.

History

The historic county of Staffordshire included in addition Wolverhampton, Walsall, and West Bromwich. With the administrative reform of 1974, these were transferred to the new metropolitan county of West Midlands. By dividing a small strip of the area leads directly to on Worcestershire. Later, Stoke -on-Trent was spun off in the 1990s into an independent urban district.

Art, culture, culinary delights

Newcastle-under -Lyme has a repertory theater (theater with master actors like in Germany ), while in the other towns of the county only performing arts centers are present, in which changing touring companies ( touring theater, musicals, opera or ballet ) for short time give guest performances.

Specialities of the county are the Staffordshire oatcakes, a kind of hearty oatmeal pancakes. They are sold cold and unoccupied at the supermarket, but they are fresh on the hand or as a main meal in Tea Rooms popular mainly occupied as fast food. The oatcakes can be hearty occupied at will and are always topped usually with cheese; frequent variants are fried ham cheese tomato and cheese sausage ( British soft sausage). They are served depending on the sale and consumption either "open" ( Tea Room ), folded or rolled.

Mascots and pride of the county is the Staffordshire Bull Terrier. Almost every weekend there are exhibitions in the area. This breed is an integral streetscape.
