Staig

Staig is a municipality in the southern Alb- Donau-Kreis in Baden- Württemberg.

The municipality belongs to the Gemeindeverwaltungsverband Kirchberg Weihungstal with headquarters in Illerkirchberg.

Geography

Geographical Location

Staig is located on the plateau between the rivers Danube and Iller south of Ulm. The districts Steinberg and Altheim lie on the ridge on both sides of Weihungstals, the other districts are in the valley of consecration or in a tributary.

Neighboring communities

The municipality is bordered to the north by the district Unterweiler the city of Ulm, in the east on Illerkirchberg, on the southeast by Illerrieden, to the south and to the west by Schnürpflingen Hüttisheim.

Community structure

The municipality comprises the six districts Staig Altheim, food village, hard living, Staig, Steinberg and wine Stetten.

History

Staig was first mentioned in documents as Steiga in 1127, Altheim followed 1194th oldest part, however, is hard living, that appeared in a document already in 1093. The other districts followed in the 14th century.

On 1 April 1972 the parish Steinberg was incorporated into wine Stetten, which was renamed on October 9, 1972 in Staig.

Blazon: About an increased division in a silver five-pointed red heath crown, below in red from the bottom edge up coming a 1:2 gequaderter silver Steinberg, from which a golden Rebzweig grows with two golden leaves.
