Suchy

Suchy is a municipality in the district of Jura-Nord Vaudois in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland.

Geography

Suchy is on 581 m above sea level. M., 7 km south-southwest of the district capital Yverdon- les- Bains ( straight line ). The scattered village extends on a plateau east of Orbeebene, on the northern foothills of the high plateau of Gros de Vaud, in the Vaud Mittelland.

The area of ​​6.7 km ² large municipality area includes a portion of the northern Vaud Mittelland. The western part of the municipality is occupied by the broad plateau of Suchy, from the Bach Ruisseau des Combes, in the west by the steep drop to Orbeebene and in the north of the erosion valleys of the village Bach Ependes is bounded on the southwest. To the east of the municipality floor extends into the vast forest area Bois de Suchy on the ridge between the Orbeebene and the valley of Buron. With 607 m above sea level. Population

With 466 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Suchy is one of the small communities of the Canton of Vaud. Of the 91.6 % inhabitants are French-speaking, German-speaking 5.5 % and 1.7 % portugiesischsprachig (as of 2000). The population of Suchy amounted in 1900 to 354 inhabitants. After the population had declined by 1980 to 229 people, a significant population increase has been registered since then again.

Economy

Suchy was until the second half of the 20th century, mainly coined by farming village. Even today, agriculture (cereals, oilseed rape, sugar beet) and fruit growing have an important role in the economic structure of the population. By 1957, even viticulture was operated. More jobs are in small local manufacturing and services available. In recent decades, Suchy has developed thanks to its attractive location into a residential community. Many employed persons are therefore commuters who work mainly in Orbe and Yverdon in space.

Traffic

The community is conveniently technically quite well developed, even though it is off the major thoroughfares. The motorway connection Chavornay at the 1981 opened A1 (Lausanne -Yverdon ) is 4 km from the center. By Postbus course Suchy is connected to Yverdon.

History

The first written mention of the village was already in the year 885 under the name Solpiaco id est Suzchie in a document of the Chapter of Lausanne. Later, the name Suichie ( 1218 ), Souchie ( 1219 ), Sochy ( 1226 ), Suchie ( 1227 ), Suschie ( 1233 ), Suchiez (1270 ) and Suchye published ( 1317 ). The place name (derived from the Latin Solpiacum ) goes back to the Roman family names Sulpius.

Suchy belonged in the Middle Ages, first to rule Grandson and 1367 came to the rule Belmont. With the conquest of Vaud by Bern in 1536, the village came under the administration of the Bailiwick of Yverdon. After the collapse of the ancien régime Suchy belonged from 1798 to 1803 during the Helvetic Republic to the canton of Geneva, who came up then with the enactment of the Act of Mediation in the canton of Vaud. 1798 was assigned to the district of Yverdon.

Attractions

The village church dates originally from the 12th century, but was rebuilt in the 18th century. The compact town center numerous characteristic farmhouses from the 17th to 19th centuries have been preserved.
