Villars-Burquin

Villars -Burquin was a municipality in the district of Jura-Nord Vaudois in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland. On 1 July 2011, the municipality Villars -Burquin merged with Romairon, Vaugondry and Fontanezier the new community Tévenon.

Geography

Villars -Burquin lies 750 m above sea level. M., 7 km north of the district capital Yverdon- les- Bains ( straight line ). The village stretches along the Jura south slope, in a scenic location around 300 m above the lake level of Lake Neuchâtel.

The area of ​​4.8 km ² large former municipal area comprises a narrow section on the anticlines of Chasseron chain. The communal land extends from the Jura foothills north across the slope of Villars -Burquin and the steep wooded hillside La Côte up to the crest of En Tévenon ( 1,345 m above sea level. M. ). Population

With 571 inhabitants ( 31 December 2010) Villars -Burquin was one of the smaller municipalities in the canton of Vaud. Of the 91.3 % inhabitants are French-speaking, German-speaking 4.8 % and 0.8 % Italian-speaking (as of 2000). The population of Villars -Burquin amounted in 1900 to 302 inhabitants, after the village suffered by strong emigration to 1970 a decline to 138 inhabitants. History

The name of Villars -Burquin has only existed since the 17th century. The place was formerly known as chez le Roy; even the spelling of Villars- Bourquin appeared in the documents. Villars -Burquin belonged to the rule Grandson. After 1476 Grandson was a bailiff under the general rule of Bern and Fribourg. After the collapse of the ancien régime, the village belonged from 1798 to 1803 during the Helvetic Republic to the canton of Geneva, who came up then with the enactment of the Act of Mediation in the canton of Vaud.
