Vassiliki Arvaniti

Vasiliki Arvaniti (Greek Βασιλική Αρβανίτη; born March 17, 1985 in Athens ) is a Greek beach volleyball player.

Career

Arvaniti reached at the 2001 Junior World Champion Championship in Le Lavandou with Efthalia Koutroumanidou the 19th Place. The following year, the duo raised the same competition in Catania on the fourth. In the Rhodes Open 2002 Arvaniti played with Areti Bouzounieraki her first tournament of the FIVB World Tour. Subsequently, the two Greek women were at the Youth World Cup in Xylokastro ninth. Among the Rhodes Open 2003 Arvaniti came back with Koutroumanidou and managed fifth place. At the Grand Slam in Marseille as well as open tournaments in Osaka and Lianyungang followed by three ninth places. The European Championships in Alanya was terminated for Arvaniti / Koutroumanidou however, after three defeats in the group stage after the previous round. After a temporary fifth place in the Grand Slam in Los Angeles they were in 2003 still at the World Cup in Rio de Janeiro. There they came as a group second behind the German duo lame / Müsch in the first knockout round, where they lost to eventual champions Walsh / May. In the 2004 European Cup in Timmendorfer beach Arvaniti / Koutroumanidou reached the knockout stages as group parties, which they lost to the Czechs Celbová / Novakova. At the World Tour they could recorded a seventh place in Shanghai and two ninth places in Berlin and Stavanger. They also qualified for the Olympic Games in Athens. Before they reached home crowd with a victory in the final group game against the Norwegians Hakedal / Tørlen third parties as a group the knockout stages, where they the German duo Pohl / Rau was beaten.

The year 2005 began for Arvaniti and her new partner Vassiliki Karadassiou with two seventh places in Shanghai and Osaka as well as the final in Milan. At the World Championships in Berlin Arvaniti / Karadassiou documents after two wins against Kusuhara / Urata and the lame / Müsch later finalists Larissa / Juliana from Brazil; in the losers bracket, they parted then against the U.S. duo juniper / Youngs and finished the tournament in ninth place. Then they won the Grand Slam in Stavanger. At the European Championships in Moscow Arvaniti / Karadassiou came with three wins semi-finals, which they won against Pohl / Rau. In the final they prevailed against the Dutch women Kadijk / bogs and were European champions.

In 2006, she managed several other top ten results on the World Tour, including the fourth place at the Klagenfurt Grand Slam. At the European Championships in The Hague, the defending champions defeated in the second game of the Russian duo Schirjajewa / Urjadowa before they failed in the losers bracket to Pohl / Rau. At the World Tour 2007 they came with every appearance in the top ten. At the European Championships in Valencia, the two Greek women gave on the way to the finals from a single sentence and won with a 2-1 in the final against the Germans Goller / Ludwig their second title. 2008 Arvaniti / Karadassiou among other Fourth of Barcelona Open and second in Stavanger. On the way to defend their title, they were stopped at the European Championships in Hamburg by the Norwegian duo Glesnes / Maaseide and Hakedal / Tørlen. The 2008 Olympic Games were completed for Arvaniti / Karadassiou after three defeats in the group stage after the previous round.

2009 Arvaniti formed a new duo with Maria Tsiartsiani, which started with a seventh place in Brasília. At the World Championships in Stavanger Arvaniti / Tsiartsiani came as runners-up in the knockout stage and eliminated in the second round against the eventual champions Ross / Kessy. In the further course of the year there was a second place in the Grand Slam in Marseille and two fifth places at open tournaments. In 2010 Arvaniti / Tsiartsiani six times on the Ninth World Tour before they traveled to the European Championships in Berlin. There they were beaten by the Finnish Nystrom sisters a second group of the first round in the second round. The following year they made at the World Championships in Rome win the group, but then lost in the first knockout game against the Spaniards Liliana / Baquerizo. The European Championship in Kristiansand ended for Arvaniti / Tsiartsiani also in the first round against the Austrians Hansel / Monday Olli. The best World Tour Results 2011 they achieved two fifth places in Stavanger and The Hague. In 2012 she came to two ninth places at the Grand Slams in China for the European Championships in The Hague. There, they reached to the finals, where they - conceded a defeat against Keizer / Van Iersel - as in the first group match. The European runners-up qualify for the Olympic Games in London. In a balanced preliminary round they eliminated despite their four points from as a group last. With a concluding seventh place at the Bang Saen Open ended their time together.

Since 2013 Arvaniti played with Panagiota Karagkouni. At the World Championships in Stare Jabłonki Arvaniti / Karagkouni eliminated despite a victory over the Thais Radarong / Udomchavee out after the group stage. At the European Championships in Klagenfurt they finished in fifth place after they were eliminated in the quarter- final against the Germans Holt Wick / Semmler.
