1984 World Rowing Championships

The World Rowing Championships 1984 were held on the regatta course on Île Notre -Dame in Montreal, Canada, under the rules of the International Rowing Federation ( FISA ). The 14 Olympic boat classes were not extended because of the Olympic Rowing Regatta in 1984 in Los Angeles, so that only four non-Olympic lightweight boat classes of men, the rowing world champions were determined. The finals were held on August 26, 1984.

Lightweight women could compete in the World Championship Regatta for the first time. The four races in one, double sculls, four without coxswain and aft, however, were referred to as " demonstration competition " from the International Rowing Federation, the winners were not world champions. With the exception of the lightweight rowing eight women these classes have been included in the official event program from the World Rowing Championships in 1985.

Up to and including the World Rowing Championships 1983 Women rowed over 1000 meters, while the normal distance of the men was 2000 meters. The women rowing since the World Championships in 1984, also on the as " Olympic distance " designated distance of 2000 meters.
