1986 Grand Prix (snooker)

The Grand Prix 1986 was a snooker tournament, which was held in the Hexagon Theatre in Reading, England. Main sponsor was cigarette maker Rothmans, which is why the tournament officially Rothmans Grand Prix was called.

Rex Williams, a professional player since 1951, turned 53 years and 98 days, a new record as the oldest player in the finals of a ranking tournament on. He was also the first and only time in his career in the finals of a major ranking tournament. Williams was Alex Higgins in the second round, Steve Davis in the quarterfinals and Neal Foulds beat in the semifinals, before he lost the final 6:10 with Jimmy White. White had the only 17- year-old Stephen Hendry in the quarter-finals can beat almost 5:4.

Alex Higgins beat the eight -time world champion Fred Davis clearly 5-0. With 73 years Davis was by far the oldest participant of the tournament.
