Aitor González

Aitor González Jiménez ( born February 27, 1975 in Zumarraga, Gipuzkoa, Spain ) is a Spanish cyclist.

Achievements

Gonzalez has been a pro in 1998 and went last for Euskaltel -Euskadi. Previously he also drove at the professional cycling team Kelme and Fassa Bortolo. He has to have been following successes (small selection):

  • 2001 winning the Vuelta a Murcia
  • 2002 overall winner of the Vuelta a España, two stage wins in the Giro d' Italia
  • 2003 Giro della Provincia di winning the Reggio Calabria
  • 2003 A stage win at the Giro d' Italia
  • 2004 A stage win in the Tour de France
  • 2005 overall winner of the Tour de Suisse

Doping

Aitor Gonzalez tested positive at the Tour of Spain in 2005 on steroids. The Spanish federation cleared him of the charge of doping offense after Gonzalez attributed the positive test result to the ingestion of contaminated food supplements. The UCI, however, did not recognize this acquittal, and brought before the CAS, a two -year ban, which lasted from September 2005 to September 2007.
