Alzey-Worms

The district Alzey- Worms is a district in Rhineland- Palatinate. He is surrounded by the two Hessian districts Groß-Gerau and mountain road, the city of Worms and the districts of Bad Durkheim, Donnersbergkreis, Bad Kreuznach and Mainz- Bingen.

He was mostly seen from the counties Alzey and Worms, which the district Alzey and Worms in the People's State of Hesse were until 1945.

Geography

The county is to the city of Worms, which lies in the southeast of the district, but not part of the county, and the city of Alzey, the administrative headquarters of the district named. The Rhine River is the eastern county boundary and at the same time the country's border with Hesse. From here the Alzey hills spreads westward from up to the northeastern outskirts of the Palatinate Forest. The western part of the county is a rocky wooded landscape, also called Rheinhessen Switzerland.

History

The area was in Roman times part of the province Germania superior. While Alzey was a vicus in Roman times, was in Worms, a Roman fort. From the twelfth century to the end of the Holy Roman Empire was one of the region in large part to Electoral Palatinate. After the French occupation (1797-1814), she was a province Rheinhessen part of the Grand Duchy of Hesse. Within Hesse created on 5 February 1835, the two circles Alzey and Worms. On April 7, 1938, the western part of the dissolved district Oppenheim was annexed to the district Alzey. After the district reform in 1969 both circuits to the new Alzey- Worms were pooled. Council

The council of the district Alzey- Worms consists of 46 elected volunteer council members and the district administration as chairman. After the last council elections on 7 June 2009, gives the following distribution of seats:

  • Because of population growth in recent years, in 2004 the number of council members from 42 to 46 increased
  • On 8 November 2010, the composition of the county changed by the passage of Kemal Gülcehre. Alliance 90/The Greens have since been represented by three and the Left with two members.
  • Due to the peculiarities of the Rhineland-Palatinate electoral system at the local elections (personalized proportional representation ), the percentage shown in the graph are voting shares as a " weighted results " reported, which may reflect the voting behavior only arithmetically.

Ernst -Walter Görisch sat down in the second ballot on 27 June 2004, 51.7 % of the vote against the candidate of the CDU Ludwig exchanger through. The candidates of FWG, Greens and FDP were eliminated in the first ballot. The turnout was very weak, it was around 35 percent. In the city of Alzey even walked only one in five voters to the polls.

Meaning:

The dragon, symbol of Drachtentöters Siegfried, was the main subject of the former Worms circle coat of arms and the fiddle indicates Volker von Alzey.

Traffic

By the district the federal highways lead 61 (Ludwigshafen, Koblenz ) and 63 ( Kaiserslautern Mainz), they intersect at the motorway junction Alzey. The circle is also crossed by the federal road 9, 271 and 420.

After the introduction of the Rheinland -Pfalz- stroke in May 1994 has been upgraded strengthens in this part of the state of public transport.
