Aurigo

Aurigo ( in Ligurian: Auìgu ) is a municipality with 346 inhabitants (as at 31 December 2012) in the northern Italian region of Liguria. Politically it belongs to the province of Imperia.

Geography

Aurigo is located in the Valle del Maro, on the lower reaches of the River Impero. The village is located at an altitude of 431 m above sea level on the slopes of Mount Guardiabella ( 1,218 m). The name Aurigo is due to the Latin apricus what " sunlit " means and refers to the exposed location of the municipality and bright. Aurigo belongs to the Comunità Montana dell'Olivo and is about 20 km from the provincial capital of Imperia.

According to the Italian classifications for seismic activity, the community of Zone 3 was assigned. This means that Aurigo is in a seismically active zone little.

Climate

The municipality is classified under climate category E, since the number of degree days has a value of 2.170. This means that in Italy legally regulated heating season is between October 15 and April 15, for 14 hours each day.
