BMW 5 Series

The BMW 5 Series is a range of the upper middle class of the company BMW. It is offered since 1972, since 1991 as a station wagon variant (company designation Touring).

The name of the BMW 5 Series stood for a reorganization within the BMW program, and the 5 Series was the first model within this classification model, which goes back to the former BMW marketing board member Bob A. Lutz. Later, this type of model ( 3, 5, 7 ) was transferred to the whole portfolio. Mercedes and Audi followed later with comparable vehicle designations a similar order logic (E - Class, Audi A6). Competitors on the market in the vehicle class of the BMW 5 Series, for example, the model versions of the Mercedes -Benz E-Class, Audi A6, Lexus GS, the Volvo S80 and the Jaguar XF.

Since September 2009, a hatchback variant called Gran Turismo is available, which is expected to parts of the 7 Series from BMW already the upper class.

General

On March 16, 2007 BMW at the 40th anniversary of the plant Dingolfing celebrated the completion of the seven- millionth vehicle. These were a 535d, which went to a customer in France. On 18 November 2009 was 5,555,555 at the BMW plant in Dingolfing. BMW 5 Series built. These were a 525d xDrive, which the Bavarian Forest National Park received as a donation.
