Cessna 208 Caravan

The Cessna 208 Caravan is a single-engine turboprop passenger and cargo aircraft ( commuter aircraft ) of the US- American manufacturer Cessna.

History

Development work began in the early 1980s and on 9 December 1982 flew the first prototype. The FAA approval was granted in October 1984, customer deliveries starting in February 1985. In October 1998 the 1000th machine was delivered and to date, over 2,000 were built.

The large wheels of the 208 also allow takeoffs and landings on unpaved runways. The lengthened by 1.22 meters versions 208B Super Cargomaster (first flight 1986) and 208B Grand Caravan (first flight 1990) offer a larger amount cargo or up to 14 passengers ( Caravan: 9 passengers ). The cargo versions Cargo Master (40 pieces built ) and Super Cargo Master ( built 260 pieces ) can carry 1587 kg cargo (cargo master) or 1933 kg (Super Cargo Master). The Super and Grand versions were equipped with the more powerful Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A - 114A engine. The freight company FedEx operates in North and Central America, a fleet of 309 aircraft of this model (as of end of 2008). From 1997, 208-675 replaced the standard version, which also received the stronger drive. The manufacturer Soloy offers a reconstruction of the 208 with two PT6D - 114A turbines which together provide 991 kW power and jointly drive the propeller. This extended by 1.8 m version is called the Pathfinder 21 and had its first flight in 1995. The approval they received in 1997.

The military version of U- 27A ( in Brazil called C -98) used in many Air Force as a troop transport, as well as an ambulance, freight and commuter aircraft. There is also a variant as a seaplane ( Amphibian). When AC -208 since the beginning of 2009 a total of eleven machines as combat aircraft in Iraq's air forces in action. These are equipped with movable STAR - sensor system (TV and IR) under the fuselage and partially (AC- 208B ) with Hellfire missiles under the wings, as well as radar warning receivers.
