Charles O'Connor (politician)

Charles O'Connor (* October 26, 1878 in Edina, Knox County, Missouri, † November 15, 1940 in Denver, Colorado ) was an American politician. Between 1929 and 1931 he represented the first electoral district of the state of Oklahoma in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Charles O'Connor was born on a farm in Missouri. He attended the common schools and afterwards until 1901, the State Teacher 's College in Greeley (Colorado). After a subsequent law studies at the University of Colorado at Boulder, he was between 1911 and 1913 employees of the Attorney General of Colorado. From 1917 to 1918 he was attorney for the city of Boulder.

In 1919, O'Connor moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he worked as a lawyer. He became a member of the Republican Party. In the congressional elections of 1928, O'Connor was elected in the first district of Oklahoma in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington, where in 1929 he Everette B. Howard replaced on March 4. In the next congressional elections he was defeated Wesley E. Disney, the candidate of the Democratic Party. Therefore, he was able to complete only one term in Congress until March 3, 1931.

After his time in Congress, Charles O'Connor worked in Tulsa as a lawyer. In 1936 he retired for health reasons to Boulder. He died in November 1940 in Denver.
