Cronay

Cronay is a municipality in the district of Jura-Nord Vaudois in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland.

Geography

Cronay is located at 626 meters above sea level. M., 5 km east-southeast of the district capital Yverdon- les- Bains ( straight line ). The scattered village extends on a plateau in the northern Molassehügelland Vaud Mittelland, west of the Valley of Mentue.

The area of ​​6.6 km ² large municipality area includes a portion of the hill country between Lake Neuchâtel and the Broyetal. The main part of the village is occupied by the plateau of Cronay ( at Les Rapes 663 meters above sea level. M. ). To the northeast, the slightly lower plateau of La Crause ( 575 m above sea level. M. ) adjoins. These plateaus are bounded on the east by the valley of the Mentue, on the west by the valley of Cuarny. Population

With 327 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Cronay one of the small communities of the Canton of Vaud. History

The earliest evidence of settlement of the municipality of Cronay are graves from the Burgundian. The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1142 under the name Crosnai. Later, the names Cronai ( 1160 ) and Cronex appeared in the 14th century. The name goes back to the Roman family names Cronius.

Since the 12th century Cronay formed a government, which was under the lords of Saint -Martin- du- Chêne. In the late Middle Ages, the rule Cronay whose castle on the hill Le Signal stood at the edge of the village, was split into three parts. With the conquest of Vaud by Bern in 1536 Cronay came under the administration of the bailiwick of Yverdon. After the collapse of the ancien régime, the village belonged from 1798 to 1803 during the Helvetic Republic to the canton of Geneva, who came up then with the enactment of the Act of Mediation in the canton of Vaud. 1798 was assigned to the district of Yverdon.

Attractions
