Dizy

Dizy ( [ dizi ], in the local Provençal dialect [(a) di ː zi ː ] ) is a municipality in the district of Morges in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland.

Geography

Dizy is located on 583 m above sea level. Level, 14 km north of the district capital Morges ( straight line ). The farming village extends on the plateau west of the valley of the Venoge, in the western Gros de Vaud, in the Vaud Mittelland.

The area of ​​3.0 km ² large municipality area includes a portion of the gently undulating plateau of Vaud Mittelland. Population

With 212 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Dizy is one of the small communities of the Canton of Vaud. Of the 91.2 % inhabitants are French-speaking, 4.7 % and 1.8 % speak Albanian portugiesischsprachig (as of 2000). The population of Dizy amounted in 1850 to 166 residents in 1900 to 184 inhabitants. After the population had decreased to 1980 on 93 people, a rapid population increase was observed with a doubling of the population within 20 years.

Economy

Dizy was until the second half of the 20th century, mainly coined by agriculture village. Even today, the farming and fruit growing have an important role in the economic structure of the population. More jobs are available in the local small businesses. Due to a restrictive Building Act that opened in 1990 several new buildings arose. In recent years, the village has developed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work in Cossonay and in the Lausanne area.

Traffic

Although the community is located off of larger thoroughfares, yet is within easy reach of Cossonay and La Sarraz. The community is connected through a community-owned bus operation, the except during school holidays serves the route between the station and Chevilly of Cossonay from Monday to Friday to the public transport network.

History

The first documentary mention of the place was already in the year 961 as in villa Discidis. Later published numerous other spellings: DYSI ( 1041 ), Disi ( 1221 ), Disye ( 1223 ), Dysy ( 1285), Disis ( 1299 ) and Dyssi ( 1311 ). The place name is derived from the Roman personal name Decius or Dicius.

Since 1041 the monastery Romainmôtier land had in Dizy. The nobles of Dizy under stood from the 12th to the 15th century the reign Cossonay. With the conquest of Vaud by Bern in 1536, the village came under the administration of the bailiwick of Morges. After the collapse of the ancien régime Dizy belonged from 1798 to 1803 during the Helvetic Republic to the canton of Geneva, who came up then with the enactment of the Act of Mediation in the canton of Vaud. 1798 was assigned to the District Cossonay.

Attractions

The village has a uniform appearance with typical farmhouses from the 16th to 19th centuries. Dizy belongs to the parish Cossonay.
