The 19 Euro Vision Song Contest took place in the English seaside resort of Brighton on 6 April 1974. The BBC jumped in a host after last year's winner Luxembourg had renounced a new edition of the competition. The event was broadcast in 32 countries. The English TV presenter Katie Boyle hosted the Euro Vision Song Contest for the fourth time.

The event is regarded as one of the great moments of the competition: For the Swedish group ABBA 's victory was the start to an international career.
