Graun im Vinschgau

Graun im Vinschgau (Italian Curon Venosta ) is a municipality with 2419 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in South Tyrol (Italy ) in the triangle of Italy - Austria - Switzerland.

The Church is the third largest in South Tyrol, the place itself is 28 km ² area and some 370 inhabitants, is one of the smaller villages. On the Graun municipal area are the villages of Graun, Reschen and San Valentino alla Muta, the Reschenpass and the side valleys Rojen and Langtaufers.

History

The remains of Old Graun are now at the bottom of Reschensee, a reservoir, which was created in 1950 for power generation. All buildings were razed to the listed church tower, the village was rebuilt on the eastern edge of the valley and the resettled population. The steeple of St. Catherine, which rises today from the lake, is the only thing that has been preserved of Old Graun yet (location: 46.81070710.536607 ⊙ ).

Attractions

In addition to rising from the lake Romanesque bell tower of the former parish church of St. Catherine the standing on a small hill close to the new town center in 1521, inaugurated in late Gothic chapel to Saint Anne is worth seeing. It contains in addition to a written around 1600 Exterior wall fresco depicting the early church martyr George a Renaissance style in 1596 having donated altar with representations of the holy family, the Annunciation and of Jesus brother James, John the Baptist and revered as a saint Agnes. Be found on the predella of a representation of the founder HJ Khuen of Belasi together with his wife.

Sports

In the municipality there are three ski areas: Nice, Haideralm and Maseben. The areas Belpiano and Haideralm cooperate with the Nauders on the Austrian side of the Ski Ski Paradise Reschenpass.
