History

The Highland region in 1975 formed from the counties of Caithness, Nairn, Sutherland, parts of the counties of Argyll and Moray and the mainland portion of the counties of Ross and Cromarty and Inverness -shire. The region was divided into eight districts:

  • Badenoch and Strathspey
  • Caithness

In 1996, the regions and districts were abolished and replaced by unitary authorities in the course of administrative reform. • City of Inverness Area Committee
  • Lochaber Area Committee
  • Nairn and Badenoch and Strathspey Area Committee
