Ice hockey at the 1952 Winter Olympics

The Olympic ice hockey tournament of the Olympic Winter Games 1952 in Oslo ( Norway) is also deemed a 19th World Ice Hockey Championships and 30 Hockey Championship. It was held until February 25, 1952 by 15. Most of the games were played in the newly built Jordal Amfi ice rink, only a few duels found in places outside Oslo instead. Nine teams participated in this tournament. For the first time after the Second World War, the Federal Republic of Germany was allowed to participate in the tournament.

The tournament was conducted in league play mode. Canada won his sixth Olympic gold medal in hockey and at the same time the world title. Only in 2002 managed a renewed triumph. The silver medal went to the U.S., which could thus rehabilitate their disappointing showing at the last Olympics. The decision to bronze was only in a playoff after European champions Sweden and two -time world champion Czechoslovakia had finished the tournament tied. Sweden was 5-3 successfully, so that the silver medalist from 1948 this time remained without a medal in this duel. Disappointing cutting off the Swiss. The medal candidate wound up a only in mid-table. The great age of Swiss ice hockey was first so for a long time to end.
