Structures
In its center, on an extinct volcanic cone, is Kapfenstein Castle, which was already in 1065 first mentioned. For many centuries the fortress was one of those fortresses in eastern Styria's room, which protected the Styria and the neighboring Austrian crown lands before the rush of the Magyars, Turks and kuruc. First Kapfenstein was owned by the Caphensteiner, later it was Walseern, White Eggern, Lengheim and Piebetz family. 1898 finally the estate came into the possession of the family Winkler Hermaden, who is the owner today.
