Khmelnytskyi Oblast

The Khmelnytskyi Oblast (Ukrainian Хмельницька область / Chmelnyzka oblast, Russian Хмельницкая область / Chmelnizkaja oblast ) is an administrative unit of the Ukraine in the west and southwest of the country, with no limit to the foreign country. It has around 1.307 million inhabitants (2014) /.

In the West Oblast borders the Ternopil Oblast, on the north by the Oblast Rivne and Zhytomyr Oblasts to the east and to the south by the Vinnytsia and Chernivtsi Oblast.

In the oblast springs from the Southern Bug. The Dniester forms the entire southern border of Chernivtsi Oblast. To the north of the district capital roams the river Slutsch the Oblast from west to east.

The oblast stretches from west to east is 120 km, from north to south 220 km from. By Oblast located on major railway lines and highways. In terms of population size, the oblast occupies the twelfth place.

History

The oblast was established on 22 September 1937 37 in the western part of the by then already existing Vinnytsia Oblast located Rajonen and initially carried the name Oblast Kamjanez - Podilskyj as the administrative center was in the same city in the south of the oblast, in March 1941, this, moved to Proskuriw since 1954 Khmelnytsky, but the old name remained until 1954 consist.
