La Capelle-et-Masmolène

La Capelle- et- Masmolène is a commune with 403 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Gard of the Languedoc -Roussillon region.

Geography

The municipality comprises the two villages of La Capelle and Masmolène. The two places whose cores are 800 meters apart, are separated by a small wooded hill. The community is located about ten kilometers from Uzès.

History

1814, the two districts of La Capelle and Masmolène were combined to form a community. 1810 the pond was drained near the villages of the monk Benoît. The common coat of arms was created in 1694th, where it can be seen at the church of Saint -Martin. The village of La Capelle was up to the French Revolution, the summer residence of the Bishops of Uzès. Masmolène was originally Mommolena ( 1121 ). There is a small Romanesque chapel dating from 1044.
