Lerma is a municipality in the Mexican state of México. It belongs to the Zona Metropolitana del Valle de Toluca, the metropolitan region to Toluca, the capital of the state. The municipality had the Census 2010 134.799 inhabitants, its surface area amounts to 211.9 km ².

Administrative seat and largest of about 70 places of Municipalities is Lerma de Villada, another larger towns are Santa María Atarasquillo, San Pedro Tultepec, San Miguel and San Mateo Ameyalco Atarasquillo.

Geography

The municipality of Lerma is located in the western part of the State of Mexico, between Toluca and Mexico City at an altitude of 2640 m to 3150 m.

Much of the Municipalities is dominated by agriculture, 18% of the area is covered by forests.

The municipality of Lerma borders the Municipalities Xonacatlán, Naucalpan de Juárez, Huixquilucan Ocoyoacac, Capulhuac, San Mateo Atenco, Toluca and Otzolotepec.
