Tonanitla is a 2003 uncreated municipality in the Mexican state of Mexico. It belongs to the Zona Metropolitana del Valle de México, the metropolitan region around Mexico City. The seat of the municipality of Santa María is Tonanitla. The community had in 2010 10.216 inhabitants in 2,392 households, its area is 9.1 km ².

Geography

Tonanitla located in the north of the State of Mexico on one level of approximately 2240 m. Three quarters of the land is used for agricultural purposes, 20 % of the municipios serve as grazing land.

Tonanitla borders the Municipalities Nextlalpan, Tecámac, Jaltenco and Tultitlán.
