Lully, Vaud

Lully is a municipality in the district of Morges in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland.

Geography

Lully is located on 425 m above sea level. M., 2.5 km west of the district capital Morges ( straight line ). The village is located on a plateau in the Vaud Mittelland north of Lake Geneva, a scenic location about 50 m above the lake level.

The area of ​​2.1 km ² large municipality area includes a small section north of Lake Geneva. Most of the community land is occupied by the plateau of Lully, which rises to the north and at Les Granges at 480 m above sea level. M. reached the highest point of the municipality. The western border is the slightly deepened in the plateau Bach Le Blacon, who also receives the waters of the close to the center springing Pontet and flows into the Boiron de Morges. Population

With 761 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Lully one of the smaller municipalities in the canton of Vaud. Of the 85.4 % inhabitants are French-speaking, German-speaking 6.9 % and 2.9 % in English (as of 2000). The population of Lully amounted in 1900 to 216 inhabitants. After the population had decreased to 157 to 1960 inhabitants, a rapid population increase was recorded with a quadrupling of the population within 40 years.

Economy

Lully was until the second half of the 20th century, mainly coined by farming village. Even today, the agriculture and viticulture have an important role in the economic structure of the population. History

The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1011 under the name Lulliacum. Later, the names Lulli ( 1177 ) Lulie published ( 1217 ) and Lulliez ( 1453). The place name comes from the Latin personal name Lullius. Lully was since the 13th century belonged to the Abbey of Saint -Maurice. Later it belonged to the rule Vufflens -le- Château. With the conquest of Vaud by Bern in 1536, the village came under the administration of the bailiwick of Morges. After the collapse of the ancien régime Lully belonged from 1798 to 1803 during the Helvetic Republic to the canton of Geneva, who came up then with the enactment of the Act of Mediation in the canton of Vaud. 1798 was assigned to the district of Morges.

Attractions

Dating from the 18th century Castle of Lully 1782-84 was rebuilt and enlarged. In the center are some typical arable and wine houses of the 18th and 19th centuries have been preserved.
