Merlines

Merlines ( Merlinas in Occitan ) is a commune with 791 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Corrèze, in the Limousin region. The municipality is a member of the Association of Municipalities Pays d' Eygurande.

Geography

The municipality is located in the Massif Central on the Plateau de Millevaches and thus also in the Regional Natural Park Millevaches en Limousin on the right bank of the Chavanon directly on the border of Puy-de -Dôme.

Tulle, prefecture of the department is located, about 80 kilometers south-west, Ussel about 18 kilometers southwest of Clermont -Ferrand, about 60 kilometers north-east.

Neighboring communities Merlines are Eygurande in the north, Monestier- Merlines in the northeast, Messeix in the east, in the southeast Savennes, Saint- Étienne- aux- Clos in the south and in the west of Aix.

The 1970 man-made, 14 -acre lake Etang de l' Abeille is located north of the town center.

Traffic

The village lies about 10 kilometers northeast of the junction 24 of the A89 autoroute. The station Merlines, Gare d' Eygurande - Merlines lies on the route from Lyon to Bordeaux.

History

Before the French Revolution, the village belonged to the lords of Lagarde ( Ussel ) and the abbots of Port- Dieu.

From 1880 to 1952 Merlines was a major railway center in France. After the construction of the dam of Bort- les- Orgues, Barrage de Bort- les- Orgues, the establishment quickly lost importance.
