Noordwijkerhout

Noordwijkerhout ( listen? / I ) is a municipality of the Dutch province of South Holland and counted on 1 January 2013 as declared by the CBS 15,734 inhabitants. Their total area is 23.4 km ².

Location and economic

Noordwijkerhout is how the eastern neighbor Lisse, about halfway between Haarlem and Leiden ( each about 13 km away). It lies between largely unexcavated dunes, just northeast of the North Sea resort of Noordwijk. Rail travelers can reach it by bus from suffering.

Noordwijkerhout lies in the bulb region, the region of the bulbs breeder. This type of horticulture and its related tourism is the main source of income of the inhabitants. Are still the psychiatric hospitals and the congress center in the community for the economy of meaning.

History

The area was settled about 2000 years ago by the Caninefaten or Cananefaten, a Germanic tribe. In the year 889 there was, according to a certificate and a district called Northgo ( Nordgau ). The village was built around a hunting lodge of local lords. In 1262 the abbey was founded here " Leeuwenhorst ", which was demolished after the Reformation in 1573. Later, there was in its place a temporary lock. From 1434 Noordwijkerhout was a capital of a so-called " Baljuw " ( bailiff ) managed glory; it had the " High jurisdiction ", that is, that here the Baljuw let execute the death sentences. For this area also included Lisse and Hillegom. Until late in the 19th century the population was poor by some farming, fishing, extraction of lime from sand dunes, etc. In the 20th century parts of the dunes were dug up to make tulip fields space. The cultivation of flower bulbs brought significant prosperity.

The City Council of Noordwijkerhout is a listed building ( Rijksmonument ). The building was built in 1930 and designed by architect Kropholler from Wassenaar. In 1956, the town hall was built in the same style. When in 1982 a further extension was necessary, an extension was immediately created, in which the library was housed.

In addition to the town hall you can admire many more monumental structures in the community yet; the white church in the center of Noordwijkerhout, the main building of the former psychiatric hospital St. Bavo, the churches of St. Victor and St. Noordwijkerhouter Jozef and the Heilig Hart church in De Zilk. In Noordwijkerhout is also the Building De Vonk, which was built under the supervision of the architect Theo van Doesburg. Furthermore, the community still has six state monuments and some dozen buildings in the center and in the country, it would be worthy to be a monument.

At various places in the community Noordwijkerhout has placed works of art. The sculptures of the artist couple Frans and Truus van der Veld form a special Trinity. The main source of inspiration springs from the love for the flower bulb specialist, for the community Noordwijkerhout is known.
