Lisse

( Listen? / I ) Lisse is a municipality and a village in the Netherlands, South Holland province. The municipality has 22 399 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2013 ) on a total area of ​​16.07 km ².

Location and economic

Lisse is located midway between Leiden and Haarlem (distance each about 12 km). The nearest railway station is 4 km away in Lisse on the line Schiphol- Leiden - The Hague. The village is situated behind the dunes, east of Noordwijkerhout and less than 10 km east of the North Sea.

History

The area around Lisse was inhabited as early as 2000 years ago by the Germanic tribe of the Caninefaten or Cananefaten.
