History

The club was founded in 1933 as TJ Sokol Znojmo and played up to the early 1990s, only at regional level " krajský přebor ". Once found with the Czech-Austrian company RONJA under Jaroslav Vlasák a more solvent donors for the club, the club changed from a pure amateur to a professional club. 1994 reached the summit of the now renamed SK Agropodnik Znojmo association in the second league. In the following three seasons, the first team from Znojmo occupied each medium places in this division. As of 1996, the Association cooperated with the two Extraliga clubs Pardubice HC Dukla Jihlava and HC, so that junior players of the three teams were able to gain experience or playing experience each in the other league.

At the end of the 1996 /97 promotion to the 1st League when you could beat in the relegation HC Sokolov 4-0. After this success, the club was renamed again as the company RONJA was renamed Excalibur, and was from that time HC Excalibur Znojemští orli. A year later the team to Petr Kaňkovský and Jiří Heš then reached the summit in the Extraliga, than you first became champion of the 1st League and in the relegation HC Dukla Jihlava defeated the 4-3. In the following years, the club was able to hold its own in the middle of the Extraliga, but never managed to get over the playoff semi-final addition. 2001 named the club after the new sponsor in HC JME Znojemští orli around and took the sponsors logo on in the club crest. Since the 2006/07 season, the club is sponsored by the energy company E.ON and also bears the logo of the club crest. At the end of the preliminary round of the 2006 /07 the club finished Rank 9 and thus qualified for the pre- playoffs. In the 2007 /08 season Znojmo only reached number ten in the first round and was eliminated in the pre- playoff against the HC Ocelari Třinec 3-0 from.

In summer 2008, there was speculation that the club wanted to sell his Extraliga license, but in the end, the Supervisory Board of the Association decided to continue to operate the first team in the Extraliga. In the 2008 /09 season introduced the HC Znojmo mirt an average age of over 29 years, one of the oldest teams in the Extraliga, where with Jiří Dopita and Jaroslav Kames were two players left who were born before 1970. After the end of the season 2008/ 09 the club sold due to the exit of the main sponsor EON his Extraliga license to HC Kometa Brno for 25 million kroner ( 900,000 euros ) and thus increased voluntarily in the first league from. In addition, a player exchange between the clubs agreed. As part of the restructuring of the name of the team was changed to Orli Znojmo.

Participation in the Erste Bank Hockey League

In the spring of 2011, the club applied for inclusion in the Austrian Hockey League. This was due, among other things, that they wanted to give the team a new perspective, without having to take the financial risk of a rise in the Extraliga. The EBEL granted the application on 31 May 2011, after the Czech Ice Hockey Association also gave its approval. Condition, however, was that the club continues to participate with a team in the first league. This requirement was not maintained.
